Review process

All complete applications will be evaluated by the Downselect Committee composed of energy researchers and staff within the Precourt Institute for EnergyThe following are the key parameters for candidate evaluation.

  • The quality of proposed research and its potential to have an impact on sustainable energy or on the nexus of energy with policy, economics, technology, food, water, the environment, or human health
  • The quality and promise of the candidate (appropriateness for the fellowship and strength of track record)
  • The strength of evaluations from experts in the field (quality of the nominating and reference letters)
  • The extent to which the applicant brings new interdisciplinary talent or new areas of research to Stanford

Semi-finalists will then be invited to participate in zoom interviews with the fellowship Advisory Board composed of Stanford faculty from across departments in the energy sciences. Considerations of the semi-finalists will include in addition to the above,

  • The quality of the presentation and Q&A with the advisory board
  • The diversity and breadth represented by the final cohort
